NATIONAL CIVICS LEARNING WEEK EVENT: Civics Education for Everyone

The West Virginia Civics Coalition will present, “Civics Education for Everyone” on March 13, from 9:30 AM to 12:20PM at the Supreme Court, State Capitol Complex, Charleston and by live streaming to any location with Internet connectivity.

During the second annual National Civics Learning Week (March 10-14), champions for civic learning all over the country will feature programs encouraging a dialogue about the importance of civics education.

The schedule for the West Virginia event is:
9:30 AM-Welcome
9:35 AM-Media Literacy-Amelia Farrell Knisely, WV Watch, & Taylor Eaton, WSAZ TV.
10:20 AM-WV Supreme Court Chief Justice Bill Wooton and Justices Tim Armstead, Beth Walker, Haley Bunn, and Charles Trump will discuss the Supreme Court’s commitment to civic education, their own personal civics experiences, and answer questions from the participants in-person and online.
11:05 AM-We the People Program-Presentations by students from Mingo County elementary schools and a Raleigh County high school.
11:30 AM-WV Youth Leadership Association Leaders-Shelby Plants-Chief Justice/Thomas Sibold-Governor
11:55 AM-WV State Board of Education Member Debra Sullivan-“Civic Engagement and Community Service”
12:20 PM-Closing

A complimentary box lunch is available in the Capitol Cafeteria beginning at 12:30 PM for registered guests only.

Optional tours of the Supreme Court Learning Center are available at 8:30 AM and after the conclusion of the event, as well as at the State Museum after the conclusion of the event.
