KQED is seeking U.S. government and middle school history teachers to implement a full six-week unit in the first semester of the 2025-26 school year. Help students connect the U.S. Constitution to their lives through a hands-on, podcast-based civics curriculum. Pilot participants will receive a $1,200 stipend. As a pilot teacher, you’ll get:

  • Access to full, standards-aligned, six-week unit covering the Constitution, Bill of Rights and constitutional principles with complete curriculum materials, lesson plans, and culminating media project resources before national release

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for classroom teachers who:

  • Currently teach high school U.S. Government/Civics or middle school U.S. History.
  • Can implement the full six-week unit in the first semester of the 2025-26 school year, including publishing most student projects to KQED’s Youth Media Showcase.
  • Are excited about student-driven projects and podcasting as a form of civic expression.
  • Are comfortable providing feedback to refine and improve the curriculum.
  • Can participate in an online summer training institute (3 hours/day, June 16-18 OR July 21-23) plus two one-hour virtual check-in sessions during first semester
  • Can submit short reflections along with student work samples and data, including results of a pre- and post-test.
  • Are able to obtain administrative approval to teach the pilot unit.

  • Information Sessions (optional): Thursday, April 10, 4:00-5:00pm PDT (registeror Wednesday, April 30, 4:00-5:00pm PDT (register)
  • Application Deadline: Sunday, May 11
  • Selection Decisions: Friday, May 16
  • Online Summer Training Institute (mandatory to attend one): June 16-18 or July 21-23
  • Instructional Window: Fall Semester 2025 (wrap unit by end of your 1st semester)
