On March 13, 2025, the West Virginia Civics Coalition received a Proclamation from the Supreme Court of Appeals recognizing Thursday, March 13, 2025 as “Civics Education for Everyone Day.” You can read the Proclamation below, or click here.
WHEREAS, the West Virginia Civics Coalition is a statewide organization with a mission to foster equitable civic engagement
and education and to make meaningful improvements to policies and practices within civic learning. It consists of volunteers
from various groups and is one of numerous state coalitions in existence with assistance and guidance from iCivics; and
WHEREAS, the Supreme Court of Appcals of West Virginia gives the highest priority to the equal rights of all West Virginia
citizens and focuses on programs, activities, actions, and services geared toward educating our citizens on their rights and
responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, National Civics Education Week (March 10-14, 2025) events are being held throughout the country with this
year’s theme of “Civic Education for Everyone;” and
WHEREAS, i n West Virginia, a program is being held in the courtroom of Supreme Court of Appeals in the State Capitol on
March 13, 2025, to celebrate “Civic Education for Everyone” with presentations by Supreme Court Justices, a West Virginia
State Board of Education member, news media members, elementary and high school students demonstrating their civics
knowledge, and student leaders talking about their own civic education experiences; and
WHEREAS, the program will be livestreamed enabling the entire session (9:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.) to be available online so that
every school, college, senior citizen center, health care facility, business, family, and person in West Virginia, can actively
participate;
SO, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Thursday, March 13, 2025, be recognized as “Civic Education for Everyone
Day” and that the West Virginia Civics Coalition be commended for its work to educate, encourage, and support civic education
among the citizens of our State.
